The Maj. George Gibson chapter of the NSDAR was awarded national honors at the Aug. 10 District IV meeting in Bristol.

The meeting was called to order by the District Director Kathy McClelland. After the opening ritual of the invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, American’s Creed and the Star Spangled Banner, Patricia Musick, Hatfield, vice regent general NSDAR and past Virginia state regent, reported on the new state regent’s project. The project, Ferry Farm, is the boyhood home of George Washington.

The State Parliamentarian, Barbara Bishop, gave a brief report on the standing rules of the district. The secretary then conducted the roll call of the chapters and reported that there were 64 members and three CAR members present. The minutes and the treasurer’s report were approved. The district director gave her report and announced her theme for the next three years. Her theme is “DAR is good women, doing good things, and having a good time.”

Other officers present presented their respective reports. New business was discussed and a motion was made for the district to make a donation to the state regent’s project. Several individual awards for District IV were presented by Kathy McClelland.

The Maj. George Gibson was presented with the National Award for the Media book in small print. The chapter was awarded the state honor at the state conference in Richmond in March and the book was then sent to the eastern division for judging and then to the national judging coming in first-place in all three categories.

Appreciation is expressed to Agnes Marcum, member of the Maj. George Gibson chapter for all the hard work to compile the book. After several committee reports and announcements, the chapter regents gave a brief report of each chapter’s activities for the coming year. The meeting was then adjourned and a lunch was enjoyed by all present.
