Roxy “Margaret” Franks Rowlett, age 85, of Hanceville, Alabama, died on April 17, 2013. She was born August 4, 1927 to Carl and Maude Franks of Waterloo, Alabama and later moved to Savannah, Tennessee.
After high school Margaret moved to Memphis, Tennessee and attended nursing school, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. While working at the Veterans Hospital she met and fell in love with WWII veteran Arvile Rowlett of Middlesboro, Kentucky. They married and had one daughter, Carolyn. The family resided on Winchester Ave. in Middlesboro, Kentucky for many years. Later in life she attended Lincoln Memorial University where she earned her Master’s degree. Both Margaret and Arvile were active members of East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church, as well as the community. After the death of her husband, Arvile, she moved to Hanceville, Alabama where she resided with family.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Martin (Tiger) of Hanceville, Alabama; a granddaughter, Dana Smith Kritner (Robbie) of Hanceville, Alabama; a grandson, Stacy Peck (Stacy) of Crane Hill, Alabama; great-granddaughters, Amy Kritner of Hanceville, Alabama and Rileigh Peck of Crane Hill, Alabama; great-grandson Wyatt Arvile Peck of Crane Hill, Alabama; sisters, Jane Keating of Jackson, Mississippi, Ruth Fisher of Savannah, Tennessee, and Martha Busbee of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers, Len Franks of Charlottesville, North Carolina, Otis Franks of Louisville, Kentucky, and James Paul Franks of Knoxville, Tennessee.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Arvile Rowlett; sisters, Anna Kirkland, Emogen Cox, and Marie Franks; and brothers, Wayne Franks, Earl Franks, Taylor Franks and John Franks.
Margaret was a devoted nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She will be deeply missed.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to East Cumberland Ave. Baptist Church in Middlesboro, Kentucky.
