Helen Stubblefield Greene, 88, of Middlesboro, Kentucky, wife of the late Elisha Greene, died on October 5, 2013, in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Born on September 2, 1925, in Hancock County, Tennessee, she was a daughter of the late Hampton Willie and Dovie Reed Stubblefield. Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter, whose greatest joy was caring for her family.
Helen was a member of the East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church in Middlesboro, where she faithfully worshiped and served for her entire life after moving to Middlesboro. She served as Vacation Bible School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. For many years, Helen coordinated the ministry of preparing and delivering food for families at times of bereavement.
Besides her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a beloved brother, Lon Carl Stubblefield and by two sisters, Francis Givens and Willie Jo Wolfe.
Survivors include her son, Randall Elisha Greene of Danville, Kentucky; her daughter, Karen Greene Blondell and son-in-law, George LaRue Blondell of Middlesboro, Kentucky; her grandson, Matthew Harper Jones of Louisville, Kentucky; her granddaughter, Christy Greene Moses and husband, Thomas Michael Moses of Knoxville, Tennessee; two great-grandsons, Joshua Tyler and Samuel Clay Moses of Knoxville, Tennessee: two sisters, Cleo Wallen and Phyllis Harrison of Sneedville, Tennessee; and her sisters-in-law, Irene Robinson of Belleville, Illinois, Una Mills and Juanita Williams of Thorn Hill, Tennessee, Ann Keaton and Imogene Greene of Sneedville, Tennessee, and Muriel Greene of Middlesboro, Kentucky; fifteen nieces and eleven nephews. She is also survived by Georgianna Schneider Sparks of Flemingsburg, Kentucky and George W. Ockerhausen of Louisville, Kentucky, both of whom she loved as if they were her own children.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and funeral services will begin at 8:00 p.m. at Creech Funeral Home in Middlesboro. Rev. Ken Cole and Rev. Mitch Bradshaw, former and current pastors of East Cumberland Avenue Baptist Church, will officiate. The eulogy will be given by Matthew Harper Jones. Music will be provided by Voices of Mae of Binghamtown Baptist Church and by Larry and Karen Blondell.
Pallbearers will be her nephews, Ronald J. Cantwell, Andrew Jerome Greene, Johnathan Lee Greene, Thomas Jefferson Harrison V, Reggie Edward Keaton, Ricky Alan Mills, Keith Charles Penny, Arvis Wayne Wallen, Raymond Dwain Wolfe, Lon Carl Stubblefield, Jr. and Clarence Taylor Stubblefield.
Interment will be on Wednesday, October 9, at 11:00 a.m. at Green Hills Memorial Gardens in Middlesboro with Dr. David N. Blondell presiding.
