LMU volleyball No. 3 Southeast Region

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The Lady Railsplitters are third in the first NCAA Southeast Region Women’s Volleyball Rankings of the season, which determine the field for the NCAA Tournament that begins on Dec. 5. Lincoln Memorial University has made five consecutive appearances in the NCAA Southeast Regional. The Lady ‘Splitters are 15-10 on the year and 11-6 in South Atlantic Conference play.

Most recently, the Lady Railsplitters dropped a four-set decision (17-25, 25-21, 21-25, 10-25) to the ninth-ranked Wingate Bulldogs — who took the top spot in the initial Southeast Region rankings — on Nov. 2 at Mary E. Mars Gymnasium. Prior to that, Lincoln Memorial rolled through Coker in three sets (25-10, 25-9, 25-13).

Lincoln Memorial holds a 4-4 record against teams represented in the rankings, highlighted by a perfect 2-0 mark over the Tusculum Pioneers who are ranked fourth. The Lady Railsplitters added a three-set win over Flagler (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) and a four-set win at Newberry (25-22, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22).

With five regular season matches remaining, the Lady Railsplitters are fourth in the conference. Lincoln Memorial ranks second in the SAC with 1,191 kills, 1,105 assists, 1,604 digs and 1,473.0 points.

Senior Kaitlin Walton leads a group of four Lady Railsplitters tallying more than 2.00 kills per set as she has amassed a team-high 2.75 kills each frame. Jazzy Oates is hitting .303 this season with 2.36 kills per set, while Brooke Fleeman and Kendra Gephart are averaging 2.19 and 2.18 kills per set respectively.

Sophomore Casey Mense has paced the LMU defensive unit this season as she ranks second in the conference with 510 total digs while ranking third in the league with 5.20 scoops per set. The Murfreesboro native also ranks second in the SAC with 36 service aces.

Freshman Abby Cash has filled out the stat sheet for the Lady Railsplitters with a team-leading 6.38 assists per set while ranking third on the squad with 2.35 digs per frame.

The next three matches for the Lady Railsplitters will be on the road, starting with a 7 p.m. match in Charlotte, N.C., against Queens this evening.
