The man accused of shooting at several individuals entered a guilty plea in Bell Circuit Court late last week.
Albert Ray Durham, 38, of Arjay, entered an Alford Plea to seven counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and a traditional guilty plea to the charge of convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
In regards to the Alford Plea, Durham did not confirm or deny that the actions took place under the charge of wanton endangerment. He did confirm that the commonwealth had enough evidence to convict him of the crime.
The commonwealth recommended five years in the penitentiary for all seven counts of wanton endangerment and seven years in the penitentiary for the gun charge. The sentences are set to run concurrently with each other.
Durham is set to receive his final sentencing from circuit judge Robert Costanzo on Feb. 3. Durham was indicted on the charge approximately four months ago.
According to the arrest citation, at approximately 8:30 p.m. on July 4, the state police said they received a call in reference to a shooting in the Bell County community.
Preliminary investigation indicated that Durham went to a residence at Garnett Loop and fired multiple shots at Timothy Ogan, Edwina Ogan, Curtis Ogan, Timothy Lance Ogan, Gary Jones, Elsie Jones and Damon Dixon, who were sitting on a porch. Timothy Ogan returned fire at Durham. During the exchange, Durham was shot. He was then flown to UK Hospital for treatment of his injuries, according to KSP.
KSP Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said the families involved had been in a dispute around that time.
In other news, a Bledsoe woman was arrested on Tuesday for meth charges by the National Park Service. The Bell County Detention Center website states Heather Renae Lewis, 25, was arrested and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, a Class B felony, and unlawful distribution of a meth precursor, a Class D felony.
The website states Lewis received a $25,000 cash bond.
