Lending a helping hand for Lt. Scotty Moore, 21 of Evarts, and a member of the Harlan County Rescue Squad, nationally recognized singer and songwriter Jimmy Rose will perform in a benefit concert at 6 p.m. on March 19 at Harlan County High School hosted by the Harlan Rescue Squad (HCRS).

Moore, who was critically burned over the majority of his body on Dec. 12, continues to improve at a burn trauma center in Augusta, Ga.

“Scotty has undergone several surgeries and more are expected,” said HCRS treasurer Juanita Cole. “He will have another major surgery on Feb. 27, having already undergone 18 surgeries thus far.”

Cole said 100 percent of the proceeds from the concert will go to help Scotty and his family with their needs while Scotty is recovering.

“Scotty is a wonderful person and he has helped his community — putting his heart into the rescue squad,” said Cole. “I’d really like to see Harlan County come together and help him now. I’d love to see the Harlan County High School gymnasium filled up to show Scotty the support he has here from his community.”

Tickets for the concert are $10 each and may be purchased from the Harlan County Animal Shelter, Jewelcraft, Evarts City Hall, the Black Bear Market in Cumberland, and members of the squad are also selling tickets. If you’d like, you may also purchase a ticket at the door the night of the concert.

Several members of the rescue squad have spent tireless hours on putting this benefit together.

Squad Sgt. Willie Galloway said all proceeds will be counted the night of the concert and Jimmy Rose will present them to Scotty’s dad. The funds will be deposited in the account set up for him at The Bank of Harlan.

Galloway also said a concession stand will be available and squad members will be selling T-shirts for Scotty.

A Scotty Moore Medical Fund was established several months ago at The Bank of Harlan. If anyone would like to donate to this fund may do so by visiting the bank or by mailing a check or money order to: The Bank of Harlan, P.O. Box 919, Harlan, Ky. 40831.

“Let’s come together Harlan County and fill the gym for Scotty,” said Cole.
