Donations had decreased so drastically just recently that Cooperative Christian Ministry (CCM) feared the doors to the food pantry would have to be closed as a result of the demand for assistance.

When the call for donations went out just a few weeks ago, members of the community responded, preventing the nightmare from becoming a reality. The shelves of the food pantry were replenished on Thursday through kindness and generosity of Bell County’s citizens.

CCM was used to processing about 15 requests for food assistance each day. However, during the past month, CCM has been filling twice as many orders.

The pantry served approximately 200 people in January, and will likely help as many in February.

CCM believes the influx of new clients stems from an increase in layoffs.

If you or someone you know is in need or would like to make a donation, CCM is located at 2124 Cumberland Avenue in Middlesboro.

Call CCM at 606-248-8022 for additional information about donating or receiving aid.
