A concert by Wayne Henderson and Helen White featuring the Jeff Little Trio will be presented March 23 beginning at 7 p.m. at Lee High School’s C. Bascom Slemp Auditorium in Ben Hur.

The concert is presented by Pro-Art Association, The University of Virginia’s College at Wise and Mountain Empire Community College as part of the Lee County Cultural Arts Series.

Wayne Henderson and Helen White have been playing together as a duo and as part of string bands for about 13 years. Hailing from the “mecca” of traditional mountain music, the two provide a visit to an Appalachian porch.

Helen White’s simple, strong guitar wizardry, the folk songs, fiddle tunes (and maybe a clawhammer banjo tune or two) let the audience experience a diverse sample of Appalachian music.

Jeff Little comes from Boone, N.C., in the heart of the Blue Ridge, one of America’s richest regions for traditional music. A professional musician since the age of 14, he is conversant with traditional jazz, old-time, country, bluegrass, rockabilly and blues.

The program is partially supported by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Admission is $12, adults; $8, seniors; and $6, students. For more information or advanced tickets call 276/376-4520 or visit the Pro-Art website at www.pro-art-va.org. Call 276/37-4520 for assistance for persons with special needs.
