Monday will mark the 200th anniversary of the death of Rebecca Boone. Rebecca was the wife of Daniel Boone, American frontiersman and southeast Kentucky legend.
Daniel and Rebecca wed in 1756 and later had 10 children, six boys and four girls.
Southeast Kentucky is commonly referred to as Daniel Boone Country with Boone being celebrated throughout the area.
Boone is famous for his exploration and settlement of Kentucky.
The Daniel Boone National Forest lies within the Cumberland Plateau and surrounds the Bell County area, allowing Middlesboro residents to take a quick weekend getaway.
The 66th Annual Daniel Boone Festival is scheduled for the week of Oct. 6 and features a parade, concerts, carnival rides and arts and crafts. The event takes place in Barbourville.
Descendants of the Boone family have spent the anniversary week in Lumberton, Miss., recreating events in which Daniel and Rebecca Boone played a lead role.
