Bell Central wins district Governor’s Cup

The Bell Central Elementary Academic Team won the district Governor’s Cup competition and advanced to the regional competition.

Page school took second place honors, followed by Right Fork in third, Yellow Creek in fourth, and Pineville in fifth.

During the competition, students had to compete in several different assessments. Students had to compete in five written assessments involving language arts, science, math, social studies and arts and humanities.

Students also participated in a quick recall session where students had to use a buzzer system to answer a question. During the future problem solvers portion of the event, students are given a topic and have to use a six step process to solve the problem.

The students are also required to take a written composition test. During the district competition, students had to write a persuasive letter.

The adviser for the elementary team is Susan Brock.

Individual winners in the assessment areas were:

Mathematics: Hunter Bailey, Bell Central, first; Chase Huff, Bell Central, second; Casey Lee, Page Center, third; Kennedy Miracle, Page Center, fourth; and Abigail Cornett, Bell Central, fifth.

Science: Caleb Lefevers, Page Center, first; Andrew Kelley, Yellow Creek, second; Peyton Hickman, Bell Central, third; Ethan Smith, Right Fork, fourth; and Chase Huff, Bell Central, fifth.

Social Studies: Brittany, Brock, Page Center, first; Caleb Lefevers, Page Center, second; Andrew Kelley, Yellow Creek, third; Reese Capps, Pineville, fourth; and Marcus Chaney, Page Center, Olivia Cox, Bell Central, and Timothy Lawson, Bell Central, tie for fifth.

Language Arts: Velda Smith, Right Fork, and Emma Hoskins, Right Fork, tie for first; Emma Risner, Page Center, third; Abigail Cornett, Bell Central, fourth; and Steven Bub Treece, Bell Central, and Elayne Fortner, Pineville, tie for fifth.

Composition: Olivia Cox, Bell Central, first; Hunter Bailey, Bell Central, second; Abigail Cornett, Bell Central, third; Hannah Robbins, Pineville, fourth; and Kayleigh Mason, Yellow Creek, fifth.

Arts and Humanities: Olivia Ledford, Bell Central, first; Courtney Bryant, Bell Central, and Ashton Burchfield, Yellow Creek, tie for second; Miranda Mitchem, Right Fork, fourth; and Madison Napier, Bell Central, and Kennedy Miracle, Page Center, tie for fifth.

Team events included:

Future Problem Solving: Right Fork, first; Yellow Creek, second; and Pineville, third.

Quick Recall: Pineville, first; Page Center, second; Bell Central, third; and Yellow Creek, fourth.

The Hume Sportsmanship Award Recipient was Page Center.
