Symphony of the Mountains plans free concert

The Pro-Art Association will host the fourth annual performance of Symphony of the Mountains by the Lake ( a pop concert) on July 25 at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, sponsored by the Marcia and Marvin Gilliam Jr. Foundation

The concert will begin at sunset and is admission free. The event is casual attire.

Enjoy such favorite selections as Wizard of Oz, Star Wars Medley, Highlights from Jurassic Park and many others.

Symphony of the Mountains was formed in 1946 as the Kingsport Civic Symphony. Twenty-seven musicians attended the first rehearsal and the number grew rapidly to more than 40. The first concert was free to the public and neither the conductor nor any of the musicians were paid.

Today Symphony of the Mountains serves the entire northeast Tennessee/Southwest Virginia region, and it now is a fully-professional orchestra of more than 65 musicians, drawn from our region as well as symphony orchestras in Knoxville, Ashville, Roanoke and beyond.
