Hoping to bring more visitors to the county, the Harlan County Campground at Putney will host a “Buggies vs Bouncers” off-road hill climb competition. The event will include buggies, rock bouncers (4 X 4 trucks) and side-by-sides.
The event will be held Aug. 29 at the Putney location, just off U.S. 119. It is being presented by Ross Racing Promotions.
“This is the third race I have brought to Harlan County promoting tourism to this area,” said Frank Ross of Ross Racing Promotions. “Buggies vs Bouncers is a very exciting event — we’re hoping to bring hundreds of people to this event. Our goal is to keep them coming back to Harlan County and to entertain the local community. This event will be high horsepower and dirt-slinging fun. We’ll also have raffles, door prizes and good food for everyone to enjoy.”
Tech inspection will be at 10:30 a.m. and the race will start shortly after, at approximately 11:30 a.m. said campground owner Stephen Foster. “Registration will cost $50 cash at the registration booth. There will be prizes for first place in each class and a minimum $1,500 ‘King of the Hill’ prize, which could build up even bigger with enough entries.”
Foster said he hopes everyone will mark their calendars for this date and make plans to come out and enjoy the event.
“You don’t have to have a four-wheeler to come out and enjoy this event. If you haven’t been to an off-road event you need to come out and experience it. If you are an old pro at watching these events, this will be one you’re sure to enjoy,” Foster said. “Just gather up the family, friends and neighbors and come on by. It will be a day filled with excitement.”
Anyone entering under the age of 18 must have a valid drivers license and both parents must be present to sign a liability waiver. There will be a $20 gate fee for spectators. Children under the age of 10 will be admitted free of charge.
“Harlan County residents will get a $15 discounted gate fee,” Foster said. “Who will be King of the Hill? Come out and enjoy an evening filled with lots of exciting competitions and fun for the entire family.”
