The Maj. George Gibson Chapter NSDAR hosted a family and friends picnic on Aug. 29 at Thomas Walker Civic Park in Ewing, Virginia. The theme of this year’s picnic was “Honoring Our Veterans,” particularly those with military service during the Vietnam Era (1955-1975). Several members from both chapters attended along with a number of visitors.

Past Regent Charlotte Brooks of the Maj. George Gibson Chapter welcomed everyone to the picnic. Following the customary DAR patriotic rituals, Chaplain Manerva Watson gave the devotion and a blessing for the meal. The group then fellowshipped while enjoying the many foods provided by both chapters.

Charlotte Brooks presented the veterans with certificates which stated that the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Maj. George Gibson NSDAR, joins a grateful nation to honor them in recognition of their valor, service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War.

This was an annual two-chapter event with hosting rotated with the Kentucky Path Chapter NSDAR of Middlesboro.
