Kudzu crud: Run for your lives

Normally I am plant lover kind of guy, but there is a group of foreigners that I love to hate. They are classed exotic invasive plants, and they are determined to take over the U.S. an acre at a time, disrupting native plants and ecosystems as they go. Probably the most notorious and recognized invasive plant in the south is Kuzdu (Pueraria montana). You don’t have to drive far to find its vines plastering the ground, trees, buildings and anything else standing in their way.

Reforming immigration by executive order a bad idea

Three words for President Barack Obama:Don’t do it.Don’t sign an executive order unilaterally creating faux immigration reform.Advocates, frustrated by a Congress that through two presidencies has failed to enact reform, are pressing for big and bold action.Such action might be satisfying for a day or two. But it would set back their cause for years, if not decades. The next Republican president could reverse such an order immediately. E...

When on the Mount of Olives with Jesus, His disciples asked Him about the end of the age and the signs of His coming again.Read that passage carefully and see if anything resembles the day in which we live. In verses six-eight, the scholar of Scotland translates, “You will hear of wars and rep...

A lesson from Daisy

Have you ever noticed that God finds you at just the right time?We love dogs, always have. When Cathe and I were first married, we lived in a little trailer. The septic tank had just been installed but had not yet been inspected so it was uncovered. We were moved in, however, and had to use it.A friend of mine gave us a dog he couldn’t care for. She was a hound dog, a big one. Daisy was her name and we were excited to get her.

What time is it?

We can always tell when the first snow is coming. We don’t know the day or the hour, but as the temperature slowly descends, the leaves fall from the trees, the sun rises later and sets sooner, the afternoon breeze is no longer a comfort from the heat, but a deliverer of the cold air; we know that the time is ripe for that first snowflake to fall. This is a good example of how the Bible describes the return of Jesus Christ. We don’t know the day nor the hour, but we can ...
