Nelson launches campaign for state treasurer

FRANKFORT — Bell and Harlan County state Rep. Rick Nelson has kicked off his general election campaign for state treasurer with a new website and grassroots organizing campaign. includes background information about Nelson along with a registration form for individuals to join the campaign effort, sign up to volunteer and receive information about the campaign.

“With 120 counties and all eyes focused on the gubernatorial election, we are planning to run a grassroots offensive campaign with organizing efforts and events in all six congressional districts,” said Nelson.

“We are working to help the citizens understand the importance of the office of the state treasurer as the overseer of the state’s checkbook as well as holding key positions on several critical boards. I know our budget process and why strong fiscal oversight is so important and I pledge to the voters that I will use my experience from the General Assembly to provide leadership and management of the assets of our commonwealth.”

Nelson has served in the General Assembly for 16 years and holds the position of chairman of the Labor & Industry Committee, serves as vice chairman of the Education Committee. He also serves on the Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Protection Committee and Transportation Committee.

Nelson served as a teacher and coach in the Bell County School District for 29 years. He also served as the treasurer for the West Cumberland Baptist Church, and currently provides his services to count the contributions every Sunday.
