A Louisville man is behind bars in the Bell County Detention Center after an officer says he witnessed him pull next to another Mustang heading northbound on U.S. 25E and tried to coax it into a race by revving his engine and squealing tires.

Ryan John Bonar, 30, was charged with racing a motor vehicle on a public highway, operating on a suspended license, disregarding a stop sign, first-degree fleeing or evading police, failure of owner to maintain required insurance and was served a bench warrant for court.

According to Middlesboro Police Department Officer Josh Burchett, after witnessing Bonar trying to race the other vehicle, he tried unsuccessfully to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. Bonar failed to stop for a stop sign in the Walmart parking lot and U.S. 25E before running around the Krystal parking lot, out onto U.S. 25E, then through the mall parking lot and around the rear entrance of the mall, before wrecking into the ditch and bailing from the Mustang and fleeing on foot.

Bonar is being held on on $2,100 in bonds for his charges and is due back in court Aug. 4.
