Visitors can take a step back in time by dining at a Pineville classic with a modern spin. FloCoe on the Square opened their doors on Feb. 19 for business.
Rosemary Combs sold the FloCoe on Jan. 1 to new owners, Mike and Judy Hamilton, pending that they would honor the traditional name and the original tile flooring in the building.
“I’ve been coming here for years, drinking coffee with the guys and getting lunch. When I retired, I’d always thought this would be a cool thing to do,” said Hamilton. “Downtown Pineville, with the mayor and the downtown projects that are going on, I thought this was a good opportunity.”
The menu includes everything from buffalo chicken sandwiches to soup beans and cornbread. They also offer daily specials which commonly include half of a sandwich and soup or side. One of the most popular menu items is the Robert L. Burger, named after former Pineville Mayor Robert L. Madon. This lunchtime favorite is smothered with barbeque sauce, bacon and cheese on a pretzel bun.
“With the wet-dry election, we were the first in Pineville to get our license and start serving,” said Hamilton. “If we get this influx of tourists from the Appalachian Wildlife Foundation, we want to make sure we’re ready so we’re trying new things too, to see what works.”
When diners step into the restaurant they will recognize the flooring; however, Hamilton has kept the heritage alive with old photos on the tables honoring pinnacle moments in the town’s history ranging from the flood to old shops that surrounded the Square.
“This is a great addition to what we’ve got going on for the Square. It’s local owners that serve good food, they’re keeping with what we want for downtown and are wanting to make it work,” said Jacob Roan, Main Street Pineville Director.
FloCoe on the Square is open from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. They are also open on Friday nights during University of Kentucky games from 6 p.m. until midnight . They offer to-go orders and can be reached at 606-654-6333. They are located at 122 Kentucky Ave. in Pineville.
