Residents of Middlesboro recently received new trash receptacles.

According to a statement that was provided in the new receptacles, the Middlesboro City Government partnered with Waste Connections, formerly known as Waste Management, to provide solid waste collection services to the residents of Middlesboro.

The joint effort is said to be part of an effort to keep the city clean and uniform by providing a 95-gallon wheeled waste receptacle to each residential unit. The receptacles are also considered to be more secure.

Delivery of the 4,400 units took place over recent days and should conclude this week when all receptacles have been delivered to the housing authority.

The wheeled receptacles will be the property of Waste Connections and they will maintain the carts to keep them in good working condition. Each of the wheeled receptacles has a serial number which is scanned and recorded via GPS tracking to the address at the time of drop off. The wheeled receptacles should be used instead of individual trash cans.

Once a decision is made on how to properly dispose of the old trash cans, a notice will be given to customers.

For pickup purposes, the wheeled receptacle should be placed at the curb with the handle facing the road. When emptied, it will be placed in the same spot with the handle facing the home to indicate it has been emptied.

Waste Connections will still be providing the same services to their elderly clients.
