The Bell County Chamber of Commerce held a Soup and Sandwich Luncheon at Shades Cafe and Steakhouse on Thursday.

Guest speaker, Sharron Johnson, is the director of the Women’s Business Center of Kentucky.

Johnson’s presentation highlighted the importance of empowering female business owners across the Commonwealth.

“Women across the state start businesses at a rapid pace, very rapid, but we still decline in sales and in employment so our goal is to increase that and make it at a level playing field as our male counterparts,” said Johnson.

Johnson spoke about the possibility of business loans. They will soon be hosting a business builder course consisting of five in-person courses geared to help existing business fulfill their potential.

Her Louisville-based job gives opportunities to people of all genders, backgrounds, education levels and locations across Kentucky, but mainly focuses on assisting female entrepreneurs with their goals.

“Many women come to us and share their goal, share their vision of a business that was, many times, small and started in their home. We look at where they are today, how they’ve grown already and what we can help them do to get even more, get bigger,” said Johnson.

Johnson’s goals over the next few months are to create webinars using entrepreneurs around the state as educators and to focus on building business through social media which will be beneficial for business and college-age women or young adults.

“We want female business owners, any business owners, to come to us and we can help get them the tools they need or teach them, set them up for success. This is networking and it really helps when we feed off of each other and discuss with other professionals their success and what worked, or didn’t work, for them,” said Johnson.

The Women’s Business Center of Kentucky has business incubator space, online office space and chef space to provide space for small business entrepreneurs of all kinds to complete their ideas and continue their plans.
