Middlesboro man dies in crash

The Kentucky State Police, Post 10 Harlan received a call at 11:09 a.m. from the Bell County Dispatch needing assistance with a fatal crash on Ky 186 in the Middlesboro community of Bell County. Trooper Joey Brigmon responded to the collision.

According to the press release, preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Dodge Dakota driven by Cameron Powell, of New Tazewell, Tennessee, was traveling east on Ky 186 when he struck an ATV that was also traveling east on Ky 186. The operator of the ATV, Scotty Shackleford, 42, of Middlesboro, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bell County Deputy Coroner.

Powell, the operator of the Dodge Dakota was airlifted to the University of Tennessee for his injuries. His condition is not known at this time.

The case is still under investigation by KSP Reconstructionist Kenny Sergent. Also assisting at the scene was the Bell

County Rescue Squad and Bell County Fire Department.
