Fatal crash in Knox County

A McCreary County woman was killed in the parking lot of McDonalds in Corbin on Monday after she was hit by a truck.

Kentucky State Police Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said Post 10 Harlan received a call of a fatal collision at the McDonalds off of Master Street in the Corbin community of Knox County at 4:19 p.m. Troopers from Post 10 responded to the scene.

Jacobs said a preliminary investigation indicates that a Ford pickup truck, driven by a 19-year-old was traveling on Commonwealth Avenue and then pulled into the parking lot of McDonalds at a high rate of speed. The pickup then struck Norma Hicks, 66, of Parkers Lake, as she exited the restaurant.

Hicks was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Deputy Coroner Floyd Blevins.

The police are not releasing the name of the driver at this time.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the collision. The driver was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin for a blood test. No charges have been filed at this time.

The collision is still under investigation by KSP Accident Reconstructionist Mike Cornett
