Wreck leads to arrest

A Middlesboro man is behind bars after officers say he was involved in a hit and run on Tuesday night.

David Dewayne Brown, 47, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident/fail to render aid or assistance, tampering with physical evidence and first-degree possession of a controlled substance.

According to the arrest citation, the vehicle Brown was driving sideswiped another vehicle at 40th and Winchester Avenue before continuing onto Winchester Avenue. When police found Brown on 43rd Street a short time later, he was standing next to his vehicle. The vehicle had damage matching the damage indicated from witness reports of the accident.

Officers say there was a strong odor of alcohol present and Brown allegedly swallowed a white pill believed to be Lortab in an attempt to hide it from police.

Brown is being held in the Bell County Detention Center on a total of $6,000 worth of cash bonds.

In other police news, several individuals were recently served criminal complaint warrants for various charges.

*Dustin D. Drummonds, 28, of Middlesboro, third-degree burglary;

*Larry D. Wilson, 43, of Middlesboro, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, methamphetamine;

*Janet D. Sparks, 47, of Middlesboro, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, drug unspecified;

*Matthew Sparks, 41, of Middlesboro, two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, drug unspecified.
