Those looking for last minute plans for the Labor Day weekend need not look farther than historic downtown Middlesboro.

Discover Downtown Middlesboro is offering yet another free Saturday night concert via the Levitt AMP concert series.

This weeks performance is different from the others as Whiskey Shivers has a hometown connection.

Band member Jeff Hortillosa is the son of local physician an Dr. Maria Hortillosa. His group combines traditional bluegrass fiddling and banjo with rockabilly bass and guitar to make an unforgettable sound that has listeners up on their feet immediately.

Hortillosa is a graduate of Centre College in Danville and currently resides in Austin, Texas. The Whiskey Shivers were featured in the Austin City Limits festival in 2013.

The band was formed in college. Hortillosa played guitar but had never sung in front of an audience, until other supportive college musicians urged him to give it a try. Six years later, the group are still going strong.
