The Bell County Chamber of Commerce welcomed Susan Henderson with GAMA Network Solutions as a guest speaker for the September Soup and Sandwich Series luncheon. Henderson is the Business Development Operations Manager for GAMA and has worked in technology solutions since the late 1980s.
GAMA, originally out of Knoxville, Tennessee, is expanding their market to include portions of southeast Kentucky. The company specializes in small to medium business computer systems.
“We don’t have contracts at GAMA because we are here to serve the client. They can leave at any time they want to, but they choose to stay with GAMA because we offer them solutions,” said Henderson.
J.R. Hertwig, a marketing consultant with Trademark Advertising also spoke regarding their company’s partnering with GAMA and how they can work together to make a business run smoother. Trademark Advertising specializes in logo design, campaign design and branding for a business.
Henderson highlighted important steps that businesses should be taking to keep their information secure including password rotation and the safety measures that should be taken to minimize problems that could arise from both natural and unnatural disasters.
She mentioned that companies that are using Windows XP or a server with Windows 2003, they are at higher risk of getting a virus. Because they are no longer supported by Microsoft, there are no more updates for those operating systems.
“My experience has been that it’s not a natural disaster that causes the most damage, but a hacker, a virus, lack of employee or user education. It’s really good to start with a business continuity plan and work from there which is the process of creating systems of prevention and recovery to deal with potential threats to a company,” said Henderson.
Henderson explained that data backups and data recovery can be one of the most important and also confusing parts of running a business. She emphasized that businesses of any size can have problems, but it can be simplified and streamlined to make it work for the company.
