The Kentucky State Police and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement are investigating a fatal crash on U.S. 25E near Middlesboro on Saturday.
A preliminary report from KSP Sgt. A.J. Bunch indicates that a man operating a truck pulling a loaded cattle trailer collided with a tractor trailer log truck and lost his life. The cattle trailer overturned and some of the cattle were injured and running loose. Local residents brought trailers to the scene and assisted in getting the cattle loaded up.
Bunch said the driver of the log truck was not injured but was taken to Pineville Community Hospital to be checked out. He was also administered a blood test as part of the Kentucky State Police protocol when a fatality occurs.
KSP Accident Reconstructionist Kenny Sergent was called to the scene to conduct an investigation for the state police.
Traffic was at a standstill for quite a while and was rerouted to Old Pineville Pike. At some point during the rerouting a tractor trailer got off the road in the ditchline on Old Pineville Pike, which caused traffic to be temporarily stalled on that road as well.
Assisting at the scene were the Bell County Fire Department, Bell County Rescue Squad, the Middlesboro Police Department, the Bell County Sheriff’s Office, EMS and the Bell County Coroner’s Office.
