In the two weeks since he made his television debut on the hit television show “The Voice,” 21-year-old Harlan native Jordan Smith’s audition has received almost 10 million views on YouTube.
Smith’s audition was re-televised on Tuesday night during the show’s “Best of the Blind Auditions” show. Singing Sia’s hit song “Chandelier,” Smith’s unique voice moved all four judges to turn their chairs.
Smith told the judges after his performance, “Being different is what makes me special. It’s OK to be different. It’s my gift and this is an amazing opportunity to share it. It’s OK to be yourself because you’re made that way — that’s how God made you.”
In addition to featuring Smith’s audition on the best of show, the show teased his upcoming “battle” several times throughout the show.
The battle rounds start on Monday and potentially half of the finalists will be cut. Contestants are paired off with their teammates and compete in a head to head battle in front of their coach, the other coaches and a crowd. Their coach can only keep one contestant from each battle. The loser of the battle may not go home though — one of the other judges can save them and add them to their team.
The show also previewed Smith working with music legend John Fogerty.
You may follow Smith’s progress on his Facebook page and also on Twitter. You can now download his performance on iTunes. Watch The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
