‘Call for Quilters’ dates set

Dr. Pearlie M. Johnson, of the Department of Pan-African Studies and Art History at the University of Louisville, is conducting a research project on Kentucky quilters and their quilts and/or family quilts.

Johnson will be interviewing quilters and family members in Harlan County — Harlan, Lynch, Cumberland and Benham.

To become a part of this historic project, a Call for Quilters event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on June 22 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Lynch; and noon to 5 p.m. on June 23 at the Harlan County Extension Depot in Harlan. Bring your ID, family photos and stories.

This information will be used to produce a documentary, quilt exhibition and published book.
