While the Kentucky Marine Corps League is making an effort to start a detachment in Bell County for veterans of the Marine Corps, Bell County based Vets Serving Vets is continuing on in their mission to care for and help veterans integrate back into the community by serving and honoring the men and women who are their community veterans.

Vets Serving Vets sole focus is on helping other veterans. Members can come from any branch of the military — the group is open to all honorably discharged veterans that are American citizens, regardless of race or gender, and veterans that are on active-duty for any branch of service are eligible for membership.

The group’s Facebook page describes, in part, how the group fulfills their mission.

“For God and Country, for true patriotism to assist all veterans, their widows, orphans and their dependents and to advance the betterment of all veterans, as best as we as an organization deem necessary,” reads the long description.

Residents throughout Bell County can vouch that this description is accurate, as they have seen members of the organization participating in numerous events to help raise funds to continue to help local veterans.

Whether it be selling hot cocoa and coffee at outdoor events such as festivals and parades or orchestrating a concert to raise funds, the members of Vets Serving Vets are continuously finding ways to fund their organization and help local veterans.

The group recently released their new shirt design and those interested can purchase the shirts at the group’s headquarters or by contacting them via telephone or social media.

From doing basic repairs to installing new roofs or handicap ramps, Vets Serving Vets has completed countless home repair jobs for local veterans. No job is too small or too big for the group — they will find the time and means necessary to help out their brothers and sisters in their time in need.

The group headquarters is located at Fountain Square in Downtown Middlesboro.
