Woman dead following collision

A two-vehicle collision resulted in one death Wednesday afternoon.

The press release states that at approximately 5:49 p.m., the Middlesboro Police Department responded to a motor vehicle wreck on south 31st Street. On arrival, officers found that the collision involved a Dodge pickup truck and a motor scooter.

The crash occurred when a 46-year-old Middlesboro woman traveling south on 31st Street on the scooter crossed into the opposite side of the road, meeting the truck as it was headed north, according to the release. The driver of the truck veered away from the scooter in an attempt to avoid collision.

Police say the operator of the scooter was seriously injured. She was transported to Middlesboro ARH by Middlesboro Fire/EMS and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

According to police, the driver of the Dodge truck was Arvil Anderson Jr., 43, of Middlesboro. The name of the scooter operator is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

The crash is being investigated by Middlesboro Officer Josh Pratt.
