The Middlesboro Garden Club recently participated in a judged flower show in London, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.”


Local resident Donna Smith was the honorary chairman and the talented sister duo of Sally Smith and Ann Shumate were co-chairmen of the Standard Flower Show.


Donna Smith earned many exceptional ribbons including the Grower’s Choice Award, Award of Horticultural Excellence, Designer’s Choice Award, Educational Top Exhibitor Award and the gold ribbon rosette for the Award of Design Excellence because she had the highest scoring exhibit in the entire Design Division.


Smith was asked by the judges to show her award-winning dried flower design at the National Garden Club Convention to be held in Louisville in April 2015.


Ann Shumate won the Table Artistry Award where she was presented a burgundy rosette in the functional and exhibition table category. She also won an Award of Merit for her cut hydrangea.


The Petite Award, a rosette of blue and white ribbons, was awarded to Charlene Rucker for her miniature creative design.


Barbara Shattuck won a blue ribbon in the small mass design class. A blue ribbon went to Vicki Byrne for her functional table.


Sally Smith won an Award of Merit for her cut zinnia.


The Arboreal Award was presented to Susan Leo for her Eastern Red Cedar specimen.


Many more blue and red ribbons were also earned by club members.
