A routine court hearing in Bell District Court ended with one man being charged with escape on Wednesday. Harold Dewayne Hensley, 34, of Miracle, was arrested by courthouse security officer Michael Bradley and charged with second-degree escape.

According to Bell County Chief Deputy David Cornelius, Hensley appeared in court and was held in contempt for resistance to order by District Court Judge Robert Yoakum. At that time a warrant filed by deputy Mike Cooper was also served on Hensley.

Cornelius said the warrant was for a theft over $500 involving the theft of a vehicle. A $5,000 cash bond was set for the warrant.

According to Cornelius, as police attempted to escort Hensley to the Bell County Detention Center, he attempted to escape by running through the courtroom and down the exit stairwell. Bradley was able to catch him while he was running down the stairs.

Hensley was being held in the detention center.
