Officials were called to the scene of an alleged attempted robbery around 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
According to Claiborne County Sheriff David Ray, a man entered the Family Medical Clinic on Beech Street in Harrogate, allegedly held three clinic employees at knifepoint and demanded to be given drugs. The three escaped and the man ran to the Heartland Pharmacy, which shares the building, and allegedly tried to rob it.
The medical clinic was open at the time of the alleged robbery but the pharmacy was not.
Soon after interviewing witnesses, Ray said officials had a “person of interest” they were looking for. He added that the man had allegedly used a long knife which officers were still searching for at press time.
“I have confidence we’ll find it,” he said.
Ethan Wade Simpson was arrested in Campbell County around 8:45 p.m. and was brought back to Claiborne County for questioning related to the attempted robbery, according to Ray.
Witnesses and employees are “physically and mentally fine,” according to Ray, “and everyone is cooperating 100 percent.”
Simpson was charged by the Eighth Judicial District Attorney General’s office with attempted aggravated robbery, a Class C felony, and three counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, which are class A felonies.
