Local musicians unite for benefit singing

Local rock band Lockdown will be holding a benefit singing at the Central Arts Auditorium on Saturday for the Salvation Army Angel Tree. The event will begin at noon and will feature several musicians. Admission will be $3 at the door.


There will be food available as well. All proceeds benefit the angel tree program.


Each musician at the show are scheduled to perform for an hour. The benefit show will kick off with Chrystal Bullins at noon. Tammy Marshall will follow Bullins at 1 p.m. and Jade Robertson will be featured at 2 p.m.


Other performers include Brooklyn Collins at 3 p.m., Strange Brew at 4 p.m., The New Busy at 5 p.m., Scientist at 6 p.m. and Malachi at 7 p.m.


The co-headliner of the benefit show is America’s Got Talent contestant Jimmy Rose. He is scheduled to perform at 8 p.m. Lockdown will be heading the event and will take the stage at 9 p.m.


Lockdown recently had their first gig in two years at the Cumberland Mountain Fall Festival. Gregg Wright, lead and rhythm guitarist, describes the band as a Tesla or Led Zeppelin based band. Members of the band include Norman Landrum on the vocals, Wright, Gary Coleman on the drums and Johnny Mason on the bass.


The band performs many cover songs but also enjoy showcasing their original music. Some notable covers the band performs includes “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf, “Blue on Black” by Kenny Wayne Shepherd, “Mississippi Queen” by Mountain and “Home” by Daughtry.
