A Middlesboro woman was arrested on Tuesday after police say she abused her child.
Nicole G. Hampton, 27, was charged with second-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 years of age or under.
According to the arrest citation, Hampton wantonly abused her 4-year-old child. Police said the child had bruising on the buttocks, back and legs. Hampton also hid the child from social services on different occasions due to the child’s injuries.
Hampton was being held at the Bell County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond, according to the detention center website. The investigating officer on the case is Officer Josh Pratt with the Middlesboro Police Department.
In other police news, Dawn Marie Ward, 53, of Pineville, was arrested on Monday by Bell County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Cooper and charged with fraudulent use of a credit card over $500 but less than $10,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Ward used a debit card belonging to Franklin J. Ward, who died on Jan. 30, on four occasions. Each withdrawal was made on Feb.4 and Feb. 5 in the amount of $400 for a total of $1,600.
Ward was also lodged in the detention center.
