Simpson receives degree from Spalding University

Amy Oden Simpson, an associate professor of English and theatre arts at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College, recently graduated from Spalding University of Louisville, receiving a masters of fine arts degree in writing with an emphasis in playwriting.


Her creative thesis was “Cakewalk in the Sky,” a full-length musical about ragtime founder and Middlesboro native Ben Harney.


Additionally, her critical thesis was “Dueling Voices: The Craft of Revision in Tennessee William’s Cat On a Hot Tin Roof and Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus.”


She is a playwright and serves as director of the Middlesboro Little Theater troupe.
