One of William Shakespeare’s’s most powerful tragedies “Macbeth” will be performed by the Barter Theatre Players at 3 p.m. on March 9 at the Lee Theatre in Pennington Gap, Va. Admission is $5 for children and adults.
“Jealousy, schemes and intrigue reign as Macbeth and his wife reach for the king’s crown. What are they willing to sacrifice to get what they want? What price will they pay for getting it? This one-hour version uses only Shakespeare’s language and is an incredible look inside the heart of ambition,” said Tony Lawson, theatre manager. “We’re excited to say the historic Lee Theatre has opened the doors again to the public. It is the town’s intention to use the theatre for multiple events.”
Lawson said Lee County native Ashley Long will headline a concert at 7 p.m. on March 7 at the theatre. Also performing as an opening act will be Strawberry Jam.
Recent renovations to the Lee Theatre were made possible through the Slemp Foundation, Virginia Tobacco Commission, Appalachian Regional Commission, USDA Department for Rural Development and private donors. The theatre is owned and operated by the town of Pennington Gap.
Tickets for the “Macbeth” event will go on sale at the window at approximately 2:15 p.m. day of the show.
