HARROGATE, Tenn. — Lincoln Memorial University’s (LMU) Caylor School of Nursing (CSON) held its spring Convocation Ceremony on May 1.


The convocation included a pinning ceremony and awards presentations. The 186 CSON candidates for graduation, including 143 associate of science in nursing (A.S.N.), 17 bachelor of science in nursing (B.S.N.) and 26 master of science in nursing (M.S.N.) students, also recited the Florence Nightingale Pledge and participated in a traditional “Sharing the Light” ceremony.


During the convocation several A.S.N. student awards were presented. The Lagniappe Award is given to a student who demonstrates an exceptional caring attitude toward patients and makes a 110 percent effort in all aspects of his or her involvement. The award recipients were chosen by their fellow classmates.


In the A.S.N. program a Lagniappe Award is given to one representative from each of the four teaching sites. The A.S.N. Lagniappe Award for the Harrogate main campus went to Angela Thornsbury, of New Tazewell, Tenn.


Taylor Moser, of Woollum, received the A.S.N. Lagniappe Award for the Corbin extended learning site. The A.S.N. Lagniappe Award for the Blount extended learning site was presented to Jennifer Allred, of Crossville, Tenn., and Krisinda Caywood, of Knoxville, Tenn., received the A.S.N. Lagniappe Award for the Physicians Regional Medical Center extended learning site.


The A.S.N. Outstanding Student Nurse Award was presented to Caywood and Sarah Lewallen, of Winfield, Tenn., a student at the Corbin extended learning site. The award is given to a student or students with the highest grade point average in the program.


The CSON offers a variety of degree options to meet nurses’ career goals. The A.S.N. program is offered in Harrogate, Corbin at Baptist Health Corbin, Knoxville at Tennova’s Physicians Regional Medical Center and Blount County, Tenn.


The B.S.N. program is offered at Harrogate and LMU-Cedar Bluff. The R.N.-B.S.N. program is offered at Harrogate, LMU-Cedar Bluff and Corbin. The M.S.N. in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is offered at Harrogate, LMU-Cedar Bluff and the Kingsport Center for Higher Education. The M.S.N. in Nurse Anesthesia is offered at Harrogate and the M.S.N. in Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is offered at LMU-Cedar Bluff.


Nursing is the largest undergraduate major at LMU. Enrollment in the CSON has increased exponentially in the last few years as new programs and concentrations have been added. 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the Caylor School of Nursing at LMU.
