Pineville is a town that honors many family traditions. One of the longest standing traditions in Bell County is located within its limits.
Arnett and Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center has a rich history since its beginning nearly 150 years ago.
Jay, Mary and Jason Steele, the current owners, purchased the company in 1988. Prior to the purchase the company served the area as a mine supply store, hardware store, furniture and clothing store, a children’s toy store and a radio sales and repair store.
Change in company business never meant a change in dedication to the people of the Bell County area. Today, the company continues to strive to offer top of the line services and products.
Since the Steele family gained ownership, they have remained progressive in their funeral planning services. They added a crematorium, memorial planning center and moved to their current and fourth location in Pineville.
Arnett & Steele has survived flooding and a devastating tornado in the mid 1800s. However, the economy is a different kind of hardship the business is currently facing.
“Just as the families we serve depend on coal to keep our families and local economy going, the families that work here in the funeral home are dependent on coal and coal miners as well,” said Mary Steele.
Despite the hard times the business has experienced, their doors have remained open due to the families that have utilized their services. They offer a wide variety of memorial and funeral planning options for families in the area, including services to all faiths, a large selection of caskets, vaults, urns, memorial jewelry, remembrance products, pet memorial products and can arrange any number of other remembrance options offered worldwide today.
