The Lee County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested two Harlan County men on multiple theft charges. Buddy Duane Hardy, 40, of Cawood, and Derrick Ray Robinson, 28, of Coalgood, were arrested and charged with two counts of shoplifting, three counts of conspiracy and two counts of grand larceny.
According to the press release, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call on a shoplifter at the Dollar General Store in Pennington Gap, Va. Officers arrived on scene to find Hardy and Robinson.
The release states the manager told the officers that on April 14, one of the individuals distracted the clerk and the other one loaded a shopping cart of laundry detergent and pushed it out of the store. The manager recognized the two from the video tape.
According to the release, the sheriff’s office was already working a case involving the two individuals regarding stolen items at Walmart in Jonesville, Va. Video tape from Walmart identified Hardy and Robinson as the suspects, and they were driving the same vehicle as the video from Walmart.
Pennington Gap Police Officer Dustin Lane has also received a call at the Rite Aid in Pennington Gap regarding items being taken, the release states. Deputy Roger Gates took a report from the Black Diamond in Stone Creek, Va., of two males shoplifting electronic cigarettes.
Capt. Taylor Scott arrived on scene and a short time later was allegedly able to get a confession from one of the individuals. The citation states he was able to retrieve some of the stolen property from the various locations.
Hardy and Robinson were both held without bond and future charges are pending. Sheriff Gary Parsons commended the work of his officers in bringing these individuals to justice.
In other police news, a Middlesboro man was arrested Wednesday on trafficking charges. Brian Lewis Wilson, 40, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Brian Green and charged with first-degree trafficking a controlled substance.
