Councilman Lucas Carter addressed the city’s code enforcement during a recent Middlesboro City Council meeting. He said it is the biggest complaint he has received as a member of city council.
“I think over the past few years we have improved on getting some houses condemned, but I think we can do better,” said Carter.
City statutes state that a police officer is the only one with the authority to write citations for the violation of such codes.
“It’s very important that we are able to actually take action against some of these code violations that are taking place,” said Carter.
Also during the meeting, Kevin Gordon with the Department of Juvenile Justice reported that his department appreciated the efforts of the sewer department before their most recent federal audit.
“Due to their efforts and being able to be there very quickly, we actually scored a 100 on the audit. They had everything taken care of in just a few minutes and without them we wouldn’t have done as well as we did,” said Gordon.
