One man was injured following a single-vehicle wreck off of KY 221 on Thursday. According to Bell County Volunteer Fire Department public relations officer Bucky Shelby, a coal truck had flipped over, landing on its driver side. In the process of flipping, the truck struck the driver causing multiple injuries.
Shelby said the wreck occurred at Straight Creek Coal Mines at the Bell and Harlan county line. The victim was flown from the scene of the wreck by AirEvac to Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn.
The BCVFD responded to the scene with one rescue truck, one pumper truck and several volunteer firefighters. The scene was cleared around 12:30 p.m. Shelby said no additional injuries to bystanders or emergency personnel occurred.
Other responding agencies included Bell County EMS, Bell County Rescue Squad and the Kentucky State Police.
