The Friends of Cumberland Gap National Historical Park is sponsoring a red carpet gala event and movie premier of Kent Masterson Brown’s movie production “Daniel Boone and the Opening of the American West” at the Visitors Center on Saturday.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 6 p.m., with the movie starting at 7 p.m. It is a formal event.

Tickets are $75 each. This includes a one-year family membership with the friends group, a raffle tickets for a 1775 era (replica) hunting rifle with leather pouch and powder horn, a friends’ euro sticker, entry to the reception and entry to the premier showing of the movie.

The event is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend a red carpet gala event and at the same time support the National Park group.

Organizers say the gala and premier promise to be the social event of the year for the Cumberland Gap region with proceeds benefiting the preservation of this grand American heritage.

The gala, coupled with the dedication of the new Boone Trace historic trail winding from Cumberland Gap to Fort Boonesborough, is an exciting opportunity for the often-forgotten story of this region’s place in history to come into the spotlight once again, organizers say.

Anyone interested in attending the event should contact Teresa Brown at 606-248-2551 during regular business hours.

There are also several other events scheduled on Saturday. At 10 a.m., Boone and pioneer settlers bid farewell to Martin’s Station at Wilderness Road State Park and will arrive at the Genealogy Jamboree in Cumberland Gap, Tenn., around noon.

At 1:30 on Saturday, Daniel Boone leads the trek to Kentucky over historic Cumberland Gap (1.5 mile moderate walk - meet at Daniel Boone parking area of the national park). At 4 p.m., there will be a dedication ceremony of the Boone Trace at the Cumberland Gap National Historical Park Visitors Center.

In addition to the events on Saturday, there will also be a day-long event on Friday. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be educational re-enactments at the Wilderness Road State Park in Ewing, Va.
