Volunteers needed for local book fair

Robert S. Cox, a professor of English at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College, is working to enlist the help of volunteer workers for the semi-annual book fair slated Oct. 4-5 and Oct. 7-8 at the Middlesboro Learning Center, located on 18th Street in the Salvation Army building.
The event is sponsored by the Bell County Council on Literacy and several thousand books have been donated and will be sold at bargain prices, said Cox. Proceeds are also to be earmarked in support of adult education since the GED testing fee is to increase from $65 to $140 next year.
Earnings from the book fair, according to Kathy Newman, SKCTC faculty and BCCL board member, will be used to help pay testing expenses. “We firmly believe that the testing fee should not be a barrier to anyone looking to improve his or her life,” she said.
Professor Cox also noted that workers for the book fair are needed. The event is to be held from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., and for additional information contact him at the SKCTC Middlesboro campus by phoning 606-589-2145 ext. 53022.
