MIDDLESBORO — Olen Thomas Turner, 89, passed away Wednesday, October 9, at the Middlesboro ARH.
He was born April 18, 1924 to the late Edgar and Bessie Turner and husband of the late Pauline Stephens Turner.
Olen lived in Middlesboro all of his life where he attended Middlesboro Public Schools. He was very proud to be a World War 11 Veteran and enjoyed talking about his time during the war. He was wounded in France as a member of the U.S. Army’s 60th Inf. Regt. 9th Division.He was a member of the American Legion Dewey Guy Post # 14 for over 50 years.
Olen worked at the Middlesboro Post Office for 25 years, and in his spare time delivered mobile homes for a local business. His first job was a coal truck driver. He enjoyed fishing and going to football games.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Alfred Turner, Maxine Hensley and Loretta Honeycutt.
He is survived by 1 sister, Betty Vanover of Morristown, Tennessee.
Three children, Thomas Turner of Middlesboro, Ky., Lynn Hill (Vaughn) of Beaufort, S.C.,Ted Turner (Doris) of Middlesboro, Ky.
5 Grandchildren, Meredith Harrington, Patrick Hill, Michelle Davis Rutherford, Melissa Leake, Monica Treese.
10 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great - great Grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 11, at the Creech Funeral Home.
