HARROGATE, Tenn. — The Lincoln Memorial University men’s soccer team concluded the regular season schedule on Saturday with a 1-0 loss to the Wingate Bulldogs. Despite that setback, the Railsplitters finished with a 6-4-1 record in league play, earning the No. 4 seed for this week’s Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship. LMU is set to host its quarterfinal match on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. against Coker.


The Railsplitters met the Coker Cobras for the first time in school history way back on Sept. 14, opening South Atlantic Conference play with a 2-2 double overtime draw in Hartsville, S.C.


Coker arrives in Harrogate boasting a 9-5-2 overall record with an identical 6-4-1 tally in conference play. The Cobras have won five of their last six matches, including a 6-1 win over Brevard this past weekend.


With a win in Tuesday’s match, the Railsplitters would head to Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. for a semifinal match on Friday. They would take on the winner of top-seeded Queens and No. 8 seed Catawba.


LMU’s women closed our their regular season on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Wingate. The Lady Railsplitters are the No. 5 seed for the SAC tournament, setting up a quarterfinal duel versus fourth-seeded Catawba in Salisbury, N.C., on Tuesday at 7 p.m.


Lincoln Memorial finish the regular season with an 8-7-1 overall mark and a 6-5 South Atlantic Conference record. Catawba, meanwhile, finished fourth in the SAC with a 6-4-1 league record and a 10-7-1 overall tally. The Indians enter Tuesday’s match having won five of their last seven contests including a 5-0 win over Mars Hill this past Saturday.


The Lady Railsplitters and Indians are familiar foes as the two teams met just over a week ago. On Oct. 26, LMU used a header by freshman Michelle Hunter in the 74th minute to edge Catawba, 1-0, at the LMU Soccer Complex.


Tuesday’s winner will Friday’s semifinals at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C., against the winner of top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne and No. 8 seed Carson-Newman.
