SALISBURY, N.C. — After playing to a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of action, Sophie Waller lifted Catawba College to a 1-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial University with a goal in the 91st minute in women’s South Atlantic Conference soccer action on Saturday

The loss moves the Lady Railsplitters to 6-6-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in the SAC, notching LMU in sixth in the league standings at this juncture. The win propels the Indians to 10-6 on the season and 4-4 in SAC play.

The Lady Railsplitters compiled ten shots in the match with seven falling as shots on goal. LMU saw two significant scoring opportunities in the second half, as Savannah Pitt notched a shot on goal at the 54:32 mark, while Nicole McKinney fired a shot on target at the 55:34 mark. Each attempt was stymied by the Catawba keeper to hold the score at a 0-0 stalemate.

The Indians fired a pair of shots on goal down the stretch of the second half, as Emily Auwarter’s header at the 79th minute and Sophie Waller’s shot at the 84:02 mark were denied by LMU keeper Kayla Stephens, who came in to relieve the injured Kayla Hanson.

After 90 minutes of play, the two teams remained knotted in a scoreless tie. Sophie Waller broke that tie and gave Catawba the 1-0 triumph with a goal at the 91:43 mark. Waller’s first goal of the season came in unassisted fashion as she lifted the Indians in the first overtime.

The Lady Railsplitters were paced offensively by Josefin Hedstrom and Nicole McKinney, as they fired five and three shots respectively in the match, with four of Hedstrom’s attempts coming on goal. The Indians recorded 15 shots in the match, led by four shots, with two coming on goal, by Emily Auwarter.

Kayla Hanson tallied 60:04 minutes in goal and made five stops before a sliding save sidelined her for the remainder of the contest. Kayla Stephens played the final 31:39, making two stops for the Lady Railsplitters.

Bethany Davis played the entire contest in goal for Catawba, recording seven saves en route to leading the Indians’ defensive unit to a shutout victory.

Catawba fired nine corner kicks in the match to only four for the Lady Railsplitters.

The Lady Railsplitters return to the LMU Soccer Complex Wednesday to host nonconference foe Bryan College. That match is slated to start at 3:30 p.m. LMU closes out the regular season at Newberry Saturday.
