The couple charged with 134 counts of cruelty to animals pleaded guilty Thursday. Charlie Gregory, 58, of Pineville, and Taniciah Little (Combs), 54, of Andersonville, Tenn., pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty. The two received a suspended one-year jail term and were barred from owning animals.

The two were arrested after a traffic stop revealed 108 chickens, nine peacocks, 18 rabbits and seven dogs were crammed into a single horse trailer. The couple claimed they were taking the animals to the flea market to sell them.

The guilty plea comes just over a week after the couple was arrested.

All of the animals that were found were taken to the Claiborne County Animal Shelter. Gregory signed over rights of the seven dogs to the shelter.

One dog and five rabbits died, according to staff at the animal shelter.
