Middlesboro is preparing to go to Jeffersontown next weekend for the State All “A” tournament.
Sophomore cather Kristen Davis led the Lady Jacket offense Wednesday night as they defeated Jenkins 10-1 inthe All “A” sectional.
Davis went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored three runs. Seniors Daven Hart and Brooklynn Jimison had two hits each in the win.
The Lady Jackets took the lead with four runs in the third inning. Davis got things started with a singled an stole second. Sophie Robinson also singled and stole second, then Jimison walked to load the bases.
One out later back-to-back singles by Katie Barnes and Hart made it 3-0 and Barnes later scored on a fielders’ choice.
Middlesboro put the game out of reach with five runs in the fourth inning.
Once again it was Davis starting things off as she doubled leading off. Robinson walked and Jimison singled to score Davis. Sophomore Tess Ford singled and advanced to second on an error as two runs scored. One out later Hart singled to put runners at the corners and stole second. Randi Jo Powers followed with a two-runbase hit that gave the Lady Jackets a 9-0 lead.
Middlesboro tacked on a run in the seventh as Davis tripled and stole home as the ball got away from the Jenkins catcher.
Jenkins scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh with the help of an error.
Jimison pitched a three-hitter while striking out nine and walking two to get the win.
The Lady Jackets are now 15-4 on the season. Following the tournament this weekend, they’ll host Bell County on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
