Renovation work has become somewhat of a concern for the Bell County Animal Shelter. The problem is not the renovation itself, but instead the lack of room for stray and surrendered dogs.
The animal shelter is required to hold stray dogs for five days before they will be put down if no room is available. Though the shelter is not required to hold dogs that are surrendered, they will keep them for 24 hours. After that, the dog will be put down if no room is available.
According to animal shelter supervisor, they are trying to talk people into keeping their surrendered pets until construction is finished.
The shelter has transports that go to Chicago, Ill. and New York City, N.Y., but they only take puppies. Currently, the shelter is looking for foster families for the dogs.
Anyone interested in fostering a dog during the construction can do so by going to the animal shelter and filling out a foster parent application. The foster family will be responsible for housing, feeding and performing daily needs for the dog for the entirety of the foster period.
If the dog gets sick while an individual is fostering it, they are to report back to the shelter. It will be the foster parents responsibility to take the dog to the vet if they feel the need to. No reimbursement will be given for expenses.
It was noted that construction has yet to begin on the shelter.
