LMU and the Middlesboro Ministerial Association presented the program “Keeping the Dream Alive: Striving for Peace, Justice and Human Rights Throughout the World” Monday. The program was held in honor of slain civil rights pioneer Martin Luther King, Jr., on the anniversary of Dr. King's birthday.

As a tribute to the non-violent tactics Dr. King employed throughout the civil rights movement, the program began with a tribute march. Participants gathered at Ellen Myers School in Harrogate, Tennessee and marched to the Duke Hall of Citizenship on the LMU campus. LMU suspended classes for the day to encourage students, faculty and staff members to participate in the remembrances.

James Chesney, and LMU Dean of Students Frank Smith join in the singing of “We Shall Overcome” to close the Martin Luther King Day event.
